The producers behind "Beauty and the Geek" (fifth season premieres at 8 p.m. EDT on the CW) are stirring things up: Instead of pairing up brainy nerds with empty-headed hotties who pity them, but relish being treated like princesses, the beauties and the geeks are going to compete against each other. Of course, if they really wanted to get innovative, they could've recruited a bunch of hunky young men as beauties, and cast dorky women with impressive brains as the geeks. Let's see, the hunks would treat the nerdy girls like chopped liver, and the girls would soothe themselves with sudoku in their rooms while the hunks waxed their bulging chests ... On second thought, better stick with your winning formula.

Also…

"Big Brother 9" gets unhinged as former couples compete against each other (9 p.m. EDT on CBS), and then more melodrama settles on "Jericho" like nuclear fallout (10 p.m. EDT on CBS). Alex bounces back from last week's devastating session on "In Treatment" (9:30 p.m. EDT on HBO), while the documentary "We Feed the World" explores the damaging practices of food corporations (9:30 p.m. EDT on Sundance). The "Charlie's Angels" of OB-GYNs grapple with pregnancy complications on "Deliver Me" (10 p.m. EDT on Discovery Health), and "The Real Housewives of New York City" head to the Hamptons tonight, presumably to get those electric-green hot pants out on the dance floor (10 p.m. EDT on Bravo). And after witnessing the glory of former Kiss frontman Gene Simmons on "Celebrity Apprentice," it might be time to check out "Gene Simmons' Family Jewels" (third season premieres at 10 p.m. EDT on A&E).
